Born 1968 in Remscheid, Germany.

Although his work looks like "straight" photography,and it appears in glossy magazines, his primary concern is always artistic. First non-Brit winner of the Turner prize in 2000. Also first "photographer" to win it. And first winner to be given a subsequent solo exhibition at Tate Gallery. Subject of a touring exhibitions at Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, Castello di Rivoli, Palais de Tokyo, Paris and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek. A complete catalogue of his work up to mid 2003 is If One Thing Matters, Everything Matters, Tate Publishing, London.

Wolfgang Tillmans lives and works in London.
